Abstract

A sleeve for protecting strawberry plants is split longitudinally to enable it to be placed around a plant so as to raise flowers and fruit from the ground. Holes provide for air circulation about an enclosed plant and a lip 2 prevents damage to the plant from sharp edges and also prevents slugs etc. from reaching the plant. <IMAGE>

THIS INVENTION CALLED A STRAWBERRY LIFT IS A SLEEVE MADE OF POLYPROPELENE OR OTHER SUITABLE PLASTIC.
Figure 1 Shows a section view and that the sides are pierced with holes 1 of &commat; 1cm centres.
Figure 2 Shows the plan from above with lip 2 of 2cm and the upper internal diameter of 6.5cm diameter and lower internal diameter of 4.5cm.
Figure 3 Shows in isometric view, the supporting lip 2 and closure edge to edge 3.
Figure 4 Shows the application by pulling open and allowing to spring back into position again round the base of the plant.
Figure 5 Shows the sleeve in use.
This device is to enable a strawberry plant to be encircled in a supporting sheath thereby taking the flowers and fruit off the ground away from slugs and snails and other insects, as well as to protect against over-wet conditions on the ground. The lip has a dual purpose in as much as it prevents slugs and snails climbing onto the plant and also supports the fruit laden stalk and prevents it getting cut or damaged on a sharp edge.
The holes are to introduce air and prevent rot of the plant. This sleeve should be applied when the flower is formed on the plant and removed after all the fruit has been gathered. It can then be kept for use the following year.

  1. CLAIM
    Strawberry Lift This is a unique gadget since there is nothing on the market at all to aid the production of a strawberry plant and protect it against damp, and insects etc.
