Abstract

Endless moving sieves; fixed sieves.-Apparatus for screening coal, stones, friable material such as coke and the like, comprises an endless conveyer consisting of bars k carried by chains l and arranged either as a sieve or as a device for traversing the material over a fixed sieve or series of sieves 5. 6, in combination with devices for agitating and delaying the material in its passage. The retarding and agitating devices may consist of chains 10, Fig. 2, hanging from the fixed framework, or a number of plates 15, Fig. 5, set at an angle to. the direction of motion of the conveyer, or a number of bars 16 depending from transverse rods 14. In the construction shown, the apparatus consists of a series of graduated sieves 5, 6 formed of longitudinal bars, the upper edges of the bars being enlarged, and the conveyer consists of widely-spaced bars k guided in slots in the sides of the framework f, and driven by sprocket wheels m on a shaft n geared to the main shaft o. The bars k may be disposed obliquely and alternately in opposite directions across the path of movement so as to move the material from side to side of the sieves. The material is fed from a hopper z by a hinged door y opened intermittently by a link wand arm v on an oscillating shaft s driven from the rear shaft n of the conveyer device.
