Description

A DOCUMENT FILE The present invention relates to a documentary file, and particularly to a bag-type documentary file which enables a user to carry documents outside without using any document-carrying means.
Generally, conventional documentary files which have been used hereinbefore comprise a generally thick plate member which may be made of paper or other solid materials, and a binder attached to an upper surface of said plate member. Such type of files are often kept in desk drawers or book shelves. When a man has to carry documents outside, an envelope for containing documents is often needed.
Accordingly, an object of the present invention is to provide a document file which enables a user to carry documents outside without using any other documents-carrying means.
In accordance with the present invention, this object can be accomplished by a box-type document file comprising: a file body having a substantially rectangular base member adapted to support documents thereon, four side members each extending from said base member at each corresponding side of said base member, a fold line formed at the junction between said base member and each side member, along the length of said junction, a second fold line formed on each side member, at a position spaced from said first fold line by a certain distance, said second fold line extending in parallel with said first fold line and dividing the side member into two portions, one of which forms a side wall and the other of which forms a cover member, when the file is folded into a box type; a handle mounted on the portion of one side member between first and second fold lines; and a file closing means adapted to maintain the file at the folded condition.
Preferably, the handle is slideably mounted by means of a pair of holes receiving each leg of said handle and optionally a pair of washers each fixedly mounted on the end of which leg of said handle to prevent the separation of said handle from said holes.
The file closing means may comprise a pair of resilient, e.g. rubber, bands extending across the length of said base member and spaced from each other.
Each band is fixedly mounted on the bottom surface of said base member, at both ends thereof.
One of side members may have a length longer than those of other side members so that the cover member thereof can function as a main cover member.
In accordance with a preferred embodiment of the present invention, a binder is positioned at the short side of the base member, while the handle is positioned at the long side of the base member.
Preferably, the file includes suspension means at either end of one side so that the file can be suspended in a filing system. These means may be retractable.
A better understanding of the invention will be had with reference to the following description in conjunction with the accompanying drawings wherein: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a documentary file in accordance with the present invention, in which the file is under the unfolded condition; Figures 2 and 3 are perspective views showing that the file is folded into a box-type from the unfolded condition of Fig. 1; and Figure 4 is an enlarged cross-sectional view partially taken along the line A-A of Figure 3.
Figures 5A, B, C and D are front, end, top and unfolded plan views of an alternative embodiment.
Referring to Figure 1, a box-type documentary file in accordance with the present invention is shown, which comprises a file body 1 made of a thin synthetic resin plate. The file body has a rectangular base member 2 adapted to support documents thereon, and four side members 3, 3', 4 and 5 each extending from said base member 2 at each corresponding side of the base member. At the junction between the base member 2 and each side member, a fold line is formed along the length of said junction, which fold line is designated by a reference numeral 3a, 3'a, 4a, or 5a. And also, each side member has a second fold line extending in parallel with the first fold line, at a position spaced from said fold line by a certain distance. The second fold line is designated by a reference numeral 3a', 3'a', 4a', or 5a'.
Each side member (for example, 3) is divided into two portions by the second fold line (for example, 3'a'). When the file 1 is folded into a box-type, the portion of each side member between first and second fold lines forms a side wall of the file. And also, the other portion of each side member forms a cover member, when the file is folded into a box-type.
Particularly, the length of the side member 5 extending from the base member 2 is longer than those of other side members 3, 3', and 4, so that the portion 5b of said side member 5 can serve as a main cover member, when the file 1 is folded into a box-type.
A binder 6 having a conventional construction is fixedly attached on the base member 2 near one side (preferably, short side) of said base member. An inverted "U" shaped handle 7 is mounted on the portion of one side member (preferably, the side member 4) between first and second fold lines. This mounting is accomplished by a pair of holes 9 each receiving each leg of the handle 7 and a pair of washers 9 each fixedly mounted on the end of each leg of the handle 7.
Such arrangement, the handle 7 can slide through the holes of side member, but can not separate therefrom.
On the bottom surface of the base member 2, a pair of rubber bands 10 spaced from each other are mounted. Preferably, each band 10 is extended along the long side of the base member 2.
Reference numeral "P" designates documents.
Now the use of the box-type documentary file according to the present invention will be described.
When the documents P has to be kept on the file, the documents P is firstly attached on the binder 6 of the file which is under the unfolded condition. Then, each side member is folded along fold lines thereof such that two portions thereof function as a side wall and a cover member, respectively. After all side members are folded, the file is formed into a box-type.
At this time, it is preferred that the main cover member 56 of the side member 5 covers other cover members of other side members 3, 3', and 4. Then, rubber bands 10 positioned on the bottom surface of the base member 2 are turned over cover members of the file to prevent any possible opening of cover members of the file. Thus, the documents P can be protected from dusts, snow or rain when one carries it outside.
The file shown in Figure 5 is similar to that described above except that a spine 11 is affixed to the inside of side member 4, between the fold lines, the spine having a retractable device 12 at both ends so that the file can be suspended in a filing system.
The suspension unit built into the spine is slidable and can be extended (Figs. 5A, C) for filing and can be retracted (Fig. 5D) for transporting the file.
