Abstract

220,718. Russell, R., and Broomfield. H. May 24, 1923. Waterproofing; proofing processes. -Asbestos fibres, yarn, fabrics, boards, &c. are strengthened and waterproofed by treatment with indiarubber or like latex, with or without the addition of viscous materials such as glue and casein, in such a manner that the asbestos fibres are not broken up. Fillers, such as magnesium carbonate or oxide, barytes, china clay, kieselguhr, ground asbestos, cork, peat, or wood fibre may be incorporated during the impregnation. After immersion in t'he latex the asbestos material is preferably passed between rollers; the rubber is then coagulated by exposure to the air or by passing the material through a bath of coagulating agent; a second rolling process may follow the coagulation, or the mixture may be pressed or moulded. Specification 211,188 is referred to.
