Abstract

Catch gear of mine-cage type.-A bolt a slidably mounted in a casing b on the cage top is projected by a spring c into contact with the guide rope g when the hoisting rope breaks, and is normally held out of action by the pull of the hoisting rope on an arm p connected to a toothed quadrant m meshing with a rack k on the end of the bolt. After contact with the guide, the bolt is projected gradually and with increasing pressure by the following mechanism until the cage is stopped. The spindle n of the quadrant m is connected by bevel gearing to a vertical shaft v which is connected by worm gearing to a shaft y. A clutch z, 2 connects the shaft y with a shaft 3 which is connected by worm gearing to a shaft 6 carrying a friction wheel 7. The shaft 3, wheel 7, &c. are mounted on a slide 11 provided with a projection 13. When the rope breaks a cam t on the spindle n engages the projection 13 and moves the slide to engage the wheel 7 with the guide. The rotation of the wheel 7 through the gearing described above and the quadrant retards the projection of the bolt.
