Abstract

178,730. Lydeard, H. April 30, 1921. Catch gear of mine-cage type.-On breaking of the hoisting-rope 2, the cage &c. 1 is held on the guides 3 by balls 19 disposed within conical members 4 mounted at each corner of the cage. Each set of balls rests on the upper tapered surface of a cylindrical member 16 slidably mounted in the member 4 and supported by one end 14 of a lever 11. The lever is pivoted to the cage top and its other end 13 engages the enlarged base portion 9 of a slidable weighted member 5 connected to the hoisting rope. When the rope 2 breaks, the member 5 falls and the consequent upward movement of the end 14 of each lever jams the balls between the members 4 and guides.
