Abstract
207,929. Torrance, W. F. Dec. 13, 1922. Catch gear of minecage type.-A pair of hinged jaws B attached to the cage are kept in engagement with a projection A<1> on the end of the hoisting rope by a ring C and helical spring D. The pin E connecting the jaws B is mounted in a block F which can move vertically in a slot in a member R secured to the top of the cage. Levers I pivoted to the member R connected at their inner ends to the block F and at their outer ends to wedges K. When the ring C encounters a fixture C<1> at the pit head, the jaws B release, the winding rope and the descent of the block F causes the wedges K to be forced between the inclined ends of the member R and the guides T thereby supporting the cage. The cage is sustained in a similar manner when the hoisting rope breaks. Specification 9025/10, [Class 78 (v), Winding and paying-out apparatus, &c.], is referred to.
