Abstract
230,700. Rodgers, G. H. July 15, 1924. Catch gear of mine-cage type. - The guide rope gripping wedges 17, Fig. 3, are retained out of action by a pivoted catch 35, Fig. 1, which is displaced when the hoisting rope breaks by the movement of a rod 23 under the influence of springs 26 and a weight 27. The rod 23 is maintained normally in its upper position by a chain 21 connected to the hoisting rope. The catch 35 engages beneath an arm 37 on a shaft 3 which extends across the top of the cage and has secured thereto weighted arms 19 and a pair of oppositely extending arms 6. Links 7 provided with adjustment nuts 8 connect the arms 6 to arms 9 pivoted at opposite sides of the cage. A pair of arms 12, Fig. 3, on the pivot of each arm 9 is connected by links 13 to a pair of arms 14 mounted on a shaft 15 which is constrained t'o move vertically by slots 38 in the housings 18 of the wedges 17. Links 16 connect the wedges 17 and shaft 15, and eyes 15<a> are provided on the shaft for the passage of the guide ropes. The shaft 3 may be prevented from rotation when the wedges have engaged the guides by pawl-and-ratchet mechanism. In order to prevent the actuation of the safety apparatus when the cage is bumped upon the props at the pit head &c. a catch is provided which prevents the movement of the links 34 - - 28 until the rod 23 has descended.
