Balances, links and stays for. - In a weighing scale of the kind employing a stay to ensure parallel motion of the mechanism the ends of the stay are each formed of two separate overlapping members bent to form a crank having its two arms situated in planes at right angles to one another, the overlapping members being rigidly connected together and having aligned bearing edges or surfaces adapted to coact with the aligned surfaces and knife-edges of the bearing plates. As shown in Figs. 1 and 5 the stay comprises a metal plate 15 with downwardly-turned forked ends 15<a> formed with aligned knife-edges 15b. Secured beneath this plate is a cranked plate 16. To each depending leg 9, 10, Fig. 1, of the scale mechanism are secured in a horizontal position two bearing plates 13, 14, Fig. 4, with aligned knife-edges 13a, 14b which prevent endways movement of the stay. The knife-edges 15b of the stay rest upon the plates 14 and are in alignment with the knife-edges 13<a>, 14<b>. Screws 17 prevent dislocation of the parts. In a modified construction of stay. Figs. 6 and 7, the ends 18a are turned down, and a forked and cranked plate 19 with horizontal and vertical knife-edges 19<b>, 19<c> is secured to each end.
