Abstract

Links; bearings.- In a weighing scale two elements of the weighing mechanism are connected one to the other for relative angular movement by means of a pin or projection on the one element engaging a parallel-sided opening in the other element, and both sides of the opening provide a surface with which the pin or projection can engage in rolling contact, the sides of the opening being spaced apart to a slightly greater extent than the diameter or width of the pin and being disposed substantially at right-angles to the direction of the normal or main force or forces which the elements transmit or sustain. As applied to a counter scale the depending leg 7 of the pan support and the fixed post 17 are connected by a link 8 provided at the ends with rectangular openings 13, 19. Cylindrical pins 14, 20 extending across kerfs in the leg and post, and retained by clips 15, pass loosely through the rectangular openings. If the load is placed out of centre on the pan thus producing a pull or a thrust on the link, the pins 14, 20 will be in rolling engagement with the sides of the rectangular slots during the final movement of the scale to its equilibrium position. The pivotal connection may be used for joining tension rods and levers or pivotally mounted rack rods.
