Description
SPECIFICATION
Gallery lining machine for use in driving operations in mines
This invention relates to a gallery lining machine for driving operations in mines, having a machine chassis frame which can travel along an overhead monorail track, a working platform linked to the machine chassis frame, a lining setting device, and optionally various other lining aids, such as a boring unit and/or a backfilling manipulator for example.
The German coal mining industry spends about three thousand million DM/year on gallery driving; at an annual gallery length of about 500 km, this corresponds to average specific driving costs of about 6,000 DM/m, and adds about 37.50 DM/tonne to the coal extraction costs (See for example Dipl.-lng.
Wilhelm Knickmeyer's article entitled "Novel driving systems ways to reduce costs".
Gluckauf, 1986, vol 122, no. 3, pp. 230-234).
Time and motion studies on gallery driving with section-cutting machines indicate that approximately half the time is taken up by lining operations, during which the section cuttingmachine must stand idle. Consequently, any reduction in the lining time requirements yields substantial savings, and those versed in the art have already given much attention to gallery lining machines for driving operations, whereby the lining time requirements can be reduced.
An object of the invention is accordingly to provide a gallery lining machine for driving operations in mines, whereby the lining time requirements can be reduced still further.
According to the present invention the aforesaid problem in driving operatons in mines can be overcome, first and foremost by a gallery lining machine of the type initially described being characterised in that the working platform on the one hand and the lining setting device on the other hand can be manipulated independently the one of the other. Thus, the invention is based on the quite important discovery that the lining setting time can be substantially reduced if the various lining setting operations can be carried out simultaneously rather than successively.
This specific discovery covers the basic concept of the gallery lining machine of the invention, whereby the working platform on the one hand and the lining setting device on the other hand can be manipulated independently the one of the other. Thus, the working platform in the known lining machines of prior art cannot be used for any other operations whilst the lining setting device is engaged in setting the copings, whereas the working platform in the lining machine of the invention can still be used whilst the lining setting device is engaged in setting the copings, particularly when a boring unit and/or a backfilling manipulator is or are also provided.
There are various ways of designing the lining machine of the invention so that the working platform on the one hand and the lining setting device on the other hand can be manipulated indpendently. In particular, it is possible to link the working platform on the one hand and the lining setting device on the other hand to the machine chassis frame by independent means. However, independent manipulation of the working platform and the lining setting device respectively can also be provided when the lining setting device is mounted in and/or on the working platform and can bemanipulated, or more specifically displaced, relative to the working platform.
There are numerous possible ways of linking the working platform and the lining setting device independently the one of the other to the machine chassis frame. More specifically, the working platform can be linked to the machine chassis frame by means of a parallelogram mechanism and a cylinder-and-piston unit.
However, it is also possible to link the working platform to the machine chassis frame by means of a first cylinder-and-piston unit an articulated bracket, and a second cylinder-andpiston unit which is advantageous compared with the system comprising a parallelogram mechanism and a cylinder-and-piston unit, in that it becomes directly possible to set the working platform at any angle relative to the machine chassis frame.
The lining setting device in the gallery lining machine of the invention can be linked to the machine chassis frame in exactly the same ways as those just described for linking the working platform to the machine chassis frame, viz., either by means of a-palIelogram mechanism and a cylinder-and-piston unit or by means of a first cylinder-and-piston unit, an articulated bracket, and a second cylinder-andpiston unit.
The gallery lining machine is positioned primarily with the aid of the travelling machine chassis frame, which naturally incorporates a driving system. When the gallery lining machine has been brought into its primary position with the aid of the travelling machine chassis frame, it should then be possible to position the working platform relative to the lining setting device and/or the lining setting device relative to the working platform. It is therefore preferred to provide the gallery lining machine of the invention with at least one telescopic parallelogram mechanism and/or at least one articulated bracket-between the working platform and the machine chassis frame and/or between the lining setting device and the machine chassis frame; it is preferred to make both the parallelogram mechanism telescopic with respect to the articulated bracket between the working platform and the machine chassis frame and the parallelogram telescopic with respect to the articulated bracket between the lining setting device and the chassis frame.
The gallery lining machine of the invention should be adaptable to the widest possible range of applications. Accordingly it is preferable that the working platform and/or the lining setting device can swivel about a vertical axis and/or a horizontal axis. This has the effect of providing the working platform and the lining setting device in the thus adapted gallery lining machine with every possible degree of freedom.
As already stated, the basic concept of the invention makes it possible to carry out the various lining setting operations simultaneously rather than successively. Consequently, it must be ensured that the dimensions of the working platform are sufficiently large for the various lining setting operations to be carried out side by side without hindrance or even interference. At the same time, the working platform need not exceed a certain width limit and a certain length limit. Accordingly, for when greater space isrequired on the working platform, provision is preferably made whereby the working platform can be widened-more specifically by providing extensible side sections-and/or lengthened-more specifically by providing extensible front and/or rear end sections.
From the viewpoint just discussed, viz., that the working platform in the gallery lining machine of the invention should allow all the necessary lining setting operations to be carried simultaneously and side by side, it is preferred to provide means for propelling the working platform in the gallery lining machine of the invention transversely to the gallery midline, so that the working platform can be positioned more or less to the left, more or less in the middle or more or less to the right of the gallery midiine as seen when facing the cutting face, depending on where the working platform is required to be and what operations in the entire lining setting sequence are to be carried out simultaneously.
Operations using the gallery lining machine of the invention can be facilitated by means such that a lining member carrier, preferably hydraulically manipulated, is linked to the machine chassis frame or the working platform or the lining setting device, so that copings for example can be taken from the floor to the lining setting device.
It was stated at the outset that-in addition to the machine chassis frame, the working platform and the lining setting device-the gallery lining machine of the invention can incorporate additional implements or ancillary aids, notabiy a boring unit and/or a backfilling manipulator; theboring unit for example can be an anchor bolt hole boring and bolt setting unit or a blasting-hole boring unit. It is preferred in such embodiments of the gallery lining machine of the invention to mount the boring unit and/or the backfilling manipulator on the parallelogram mechanism linking the working platform to- the machine chassis frame, or on the articulated bracket linking the working platform to the machine chassis frame, asthe case may be, with freedom torotate through 360 and travel over the working platform.Various means can be adopted for mounting the boring unit or the backfilling manipulator on the parallelogram mechanism or the articulated bracket linking the working platform to the machine chassis frame. Preferalby the boring unit and/or the backfilling manipulator can be swivelled through 360" with the aid of a spur and pinion. The boring unit and/or the backfilling manipulator can be traversed by connecting the boring unit and/or the backfilling manipulator to the parallelogram mechanism or the articulated bracket, as the case may be, through a worm gear and rack.
In all, the boring unit and/or backfilling manipulator can be attached to the parallelogram mechanism linking the working platform to the machine chassis frame or the articulated bracket linking the working platform to the machine chassisframe, as the case may be by means of a first cylinder-and-piston unit, an articulated bracket, and a second cylinder-andpiston unit; and the articulated bracket can be made telescopic.
Three embodiments of the invention will now be described by way of example only, with reference to the accompany diagrammatic drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation of a first embodiment of the gallery lining machine in accordance with the invention;
Figure 2 is a fragmentary plan showing alternative or preferred features for a gallery lining machine in accordance with the invention; and
Figure 3 is another fragmentary plan showing further alternative features for a gallery lining machine in accordance with the invention.
Figure 1 shows a gallery 1, having in the immediate vicinity of the working face 2 a lining machine 3 for use in the gallery driving operations. As Figure 1 also shows, the gallery lining machine 3 of the invention has a machine chassis frame 5 which can travel along an overhead monorail trck 4, a working platform 6 linked to the machine chassis frame 5, and a lining setting device 7.
In accordance with the invention, the working platform 6 on the one hand and the lining setting device 7 on the other hand can be manpulated independently the one of the other. The working platform 6 and the lining setting device 7 are each linked independently of the other to the machine chassis frame 5.
In more detail, the working platform 6 is linked to the machine chassis frame 5 by a first cylinder-and-piston unit 8, an articulated bracket 9, and a second cylinder-andpiston unit 10, while the lining setting device 7 is linked to the machine chassis frame 5 by a parallelogram mechanism 11 and a cylinderand-piston unit 12.
In Figure 2 the articulated bracket 9 between the working platform 6nd the machine chassis frame 5 is made telescopic.
Figures 1 and 2 furthermore show that the working platform 6 can swivel about vertical and horizontal axes 13, 14 respectively; Figure 2 shows two vertical axes 13, while Figure 1 shows two horizontal' axes 14.
Figures 2 and 3 further show that the working platform 6 can be propelled transversely to the gallery midline 15. In Figure 2, this freedom of movement is derived from the swivelling motion about the vertical axes 13, while in Figure 3 there is direct translatory motion.
Figure 1 further shows a hydraulically manipulated lining member carrier 16 linked to the machine chassis frame 5, so that copings (not shown) can be lifted from the floor 17 of the gallery 1 to the lining setting device 7.
Finally, Figure 3 further shows a boring unit 18 which forms part of the gallery lining machine 3 and can swivel about 360" as a unit 18, and can travel over the articulated bracket 9 linking the working platform 6 to the machine chassis frame 5 (not shown). The swivelling motion on the articulated bracket 9 is imparted to the boring unit 18 by means of a pinion 19 and a spur gear 20, while the travelling motion over the articulated bracket 9 is imparted to the boring unit 18 by means of a worm gear 21 and a rack 22, neither of which is shown in detail. Furthermore, the boring unit 18 isattached to the articulated bracket 9 by means of a first cyoinder-and-piston unit 23, an articulated bracket 24, and a second cylinder-and-piston unit 25; and the articulated bracket 24 is made telescopic.
