217,090. Barnes, F. G. Aug. 9, 1923. Surface treatment with liquid materials.-Relates to tar spraying machines in which the tar is spread by transversely reciprocating sets of bushes B, see plan Fig. 5, composed of brushelements A, Fig. 2, which rise and fall against the action of springs A<3> to allow for irregularities in the road surface. According to the invention, (1) guides a<2> for roller bearings are provided between the brush-elements A, (2) the brush springs A<3> are arranged round bolts A<2> connected to the brush-backs A<1> and sliding through holes in the brush-holders B, (3) the end brush-elements are guided by plates as having slots engaged by pins on the brush-backs, and (4) the shaft. E<3>, which is geared to the brush-reciprocating crank shaft E, is driven from the road wheels and is arranged between the brushes and the rear wheel axle E<4>. The tar is delivered from a transverse pipe arranged as described in Specification 217,153.
