Abstract

6375. Briggs, J. March 16. Scavengers' carts.-The road sweepings are brought to the centre line of the vehicle by two front inclined rotary brushes 2, and are raised by brushes 3 to the conveyer chamber 8, from which they are removed by the buckets 10. They are discharged into a receptacle 14, which is removable from the front of the vehicle. The rotary brushes are driven from the rear axle by bevel and chain gearing, and one may be driven from the other by a universal coupling. The brushes 3, which are also driven from the rear axle by chains 18, 12, and gearing 17, may be replaced by squeegees. Means are provided for raising all the brushes from the road surface.
