Cauldrons; sweeping - machines; taking up refuse for removal. - Relates to snowmelting machines of the kind in which snow is swept from the road and is delivered by an endless-band conveyer on to the inclined floor of a melting-tank, and consists in providing the conveyer band with rearwardly projecting brushes. Means are also provided for breaking-up ice and snow in front of the machine and for clearing the tufts of the conveyer brushes of adhering snow. The melting-tank is carried at the rear of the vehicle, and its inclined floor 4 is heated by burners 5 supplied with liquid fuel from a tank 6. The snow, broken up by a row of verticallyreciprocated picks 23, is swept by a rotary brush 29 into a pivoted scoop 11, from which it is delivered up a shoot 2 into the tank by the conveyer brushes 8, which are freed from adhering snow by a comb 10. The scoop 11, the brush 29, and the frame 16 carrying the picks 23 may be raised out of action by chains 12 operated from a hand-wheel 15.
