Abstract

Spacing pieces 1 have lugs which cooperate with holes 2, in bricks thereby locating the bricks relative to each other with the required horizontal joint thicknesses, in the desired bond. Spacing pieces 1 may be linked by a mesh 3 and may incorporate upright protrusions which intrude between adjacent bricks in a course to set the vertical joint thicknesses. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Aid to Jointing Wall Components This invention relates to the spacing and bonding of components in the construction of walls and non-vertical building works where a setting compound, such as mortar, is used in joints to provide structural integrity.
Bonding and jointing of wall components, such as bricks, is well known craft. The laying of bricks, however, requires specialist skill in order to achieve reasonably straight and level work, with uniform vertical and horizontal joints. Mesh reinforcement built into bedding joints is also well known.
According to the present invention there is provided an aid to jointing wall components consisting of spacing pieces with lugs, so positioned and shaped, to co-operate with holes in wall components thereby locating them relative to each other with the required vertical and horizontal joint thicknesses, in the desired bond. The spacing pieces may be linked by a mesh arrangement which permits adhesion of the jointing compound with wall components. Spacing pieces and lugs may be so shaped as to allow the passage of jointing compound into the locating holes thereby ensuring a good mechanical key between materials. Such an aid to jointing wall components may be used at any angle, for example, in paving and the like.
A further embodiment of the invention has spacing pieces without lugs which merely set the horizontal joint whilst an upright protrusion in the vertical joint determines its thickness and cooperates with grooves in the wall components thereby controliing their direction. A downward protrusion from the following course interlocks with the vertical protrusion to arrange bonding.
Specific embodiments of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 shows an isometric projection of a wall during construction.
Figure 2 illustrates a further embodiment of the invention also showing an isometric projection of a wall under construction.
Referring to Fig. 1 the spacing pieces 1 which may be linked by a mesh 3, co-operate with holes 2 in bricks, thereby locating the bricks relative to each other with the required vertical and horizontal joint thicknesses and the desired bond, in this case stretcher bond.
Referring to Fig. 2, spacing pieces 4 determine horizontal joint thickness whilst an upright protrusion 5 co-operates with grooves 6 in bricks to determine the vertical joint thickness and direction of the wall. A downward protrusion 7 interlocks with the vertical protrusion from the previous course to arrange bonding, in this case stretcher bond.
1, An.aid to jointing wali components consisting of spacing pieces with lugs, so positioned and shaped to co-operate with holes in wall components thereby locating them relative to each other with the required vertical and horizontal joint thicknesses, in the desired bond.
2. An aid to jointing wall components as claimed in Claim 1 wherein two or more spacing pieces are linked by a mechanism, such as a mesh, which does not interrupt adhesion between jointing compound and wall components.
3. An aid to jointing wall components as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 wherein spacing pieces and lugs which co-operate with holes in wall components are so shaped as to allow the passage ofjointing compound into the locating holes thereby ensuring a good mechanical key between materials.
4. An aid to jointing wall components as claimed in any preceding claims wherein the device may be used in non-vertical applications such as paving.
5. An aid to jointing wall components as claimed in Claim 2 wherein spacing pieces have no lugs but merely set horizontal joint thickness whilst an upright protrusion co-operates with grooves in wall components to set the vertical joint thickness and also interlock with a downward protrusion from the following course in order to arrange bonding.
6. An aid to jointing wall components substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1 and 2 of the accompanying drawings.
