Abstract
A vessel 1 is placed in the circulation circuit of the cutting liquid or in a branch of the circuit. Inserts 2 carrying a solid conservation substance 3 are placed in the vessel 1. The conservation substance is arranged in inserts formed by a netting with meshes smaller than the size of particles of the conservation substance. The conservation substance can be arranged also in inserts formed by cases with perforated walls, the perforation being smaller than the size of particles of the conservation substance. The conservation substance can be also conveniently fixed on the surface of the inserts, e.g. by an adhesive or a coat of paint or mechanically. The cutting liquid circulates through the vessel 1 and the microorganisms contained in it are killed by contact with the conservation substance 3. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Device for continuous conservation of cutting liquids
The invention concerns a device for continuous conservation of cutting liquids, especially those used for machining.
The conservation of cutting liquids is ensured in various ways. Water-soluble substances are used very often. Nevertheless, physiological activity on the worker's epidermis is their disadvantage so that any use of such substances and their concentration is very limited by this fact.
In a known device for continuous conservation and decontamination of liquids and emulsions, a decontamination vessel is inserted in a circulation circuit of the cutting liquid or in a branch of the circuit. A basket for an efficient conservation substance closed by a net cover is freely placed in the decontamination vessel, or the vessel is provided with two net partitions between which the efficient substance is deposited. The disadvantage of such device is that the screens and the basket act as a filter which is soon clogged by impurities of the cutting liquid so that the effect of the substance decreases very rapidly. A further known solution uses therefore for this purpose a separator for impurities, which, however, is formed by a special supplementary device.
The present invention provides a device in which a vessel is inserted into a circulation circuit of the cutting liquid or in its branch, the vessel having at least one insert carrying a solid conservation substance.
The vessel can have an annular or rectangular or other cross-section, the inserts being adapted to this form. The inserts may be formed directly by a netting or by a netting inserted into frames, by a case equipped with perforated walls, by a full plate. The conservation substance is placed in the inserts formed by a netting with meshes smaller than the size of particles of the conservation substance or the conservation substance can be placed in cases having perforated walls, the perforation being smaller than the size of particles of the conservation substance. The conservation substance can be also conveniently fixed to the surface of the inserts, e.g. by means of an adhesive or a coat of paint or mechanically.
The advantage of the invention is that no filtration of liquid is executed in the device and therefore it cannot easily become clogged. The impurities contained in the cutting liquid pass freely through this device and may then be removed by another device. The lifetime of the conservation filling and the function of the whole device can be approximately 0.5 to 1 year, which is much more than the lifetime of existing designs of similar devices.
The invention will be described further, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 shows a longitudinal section through a device for continuous conservation of cutting liq uids; Figure 2 shows a transverse section of the device;
Figure 3 shows a longitudinal section through another embodiment of the device; and
Figure 4 is a transverse section of this embodiment.
Figures 1 and 2 show a device formed by a vessel 1 of rectangular cross-section, the vessel 1 being equipped with a cover 5. There are inserts 2 in the form of frames made from netting which are inserted into guide grooves 4 with which the walls of the vessel 1 are provided. The inserts 2 are filled by a solid conservation substance 3. The cutting liquid circulates through the vessel 1 and the microorganisms contained in it are killed by contact with the conservation substance 3. It is not necessary that all the liquid must pass along the inserts 2. The vessel 1 may be in a branch of the liquid circuit.
Figures 3 and 4 show an alternative embodiment, where the vessel 1 has a form of a cylinder.
Inserts 2 made of netting are freely inserted into the vessel 1, the inserts 2 being filled by a solid conservation substance 3. The cutting liquid pass partially along the inserts 2 and partially through the free space between the inserts 2.
In each of the above embodiments, the inserts are spaced apart and extend generally along the flow direction of the cutting fluid from the inlet to the outlet of the vessel, so that the liquid can pass substantially freely through the vessel without any risk of clogging by solid impurities carried by the liquid.
The device can be used in connection with cutting shaping or non-cutting shaping demanding the use of cutting liquids and in connection with the cleaning of cutting liquids.

2. A device as claimed in claim 1, in which the insert comprises netting.
3. A device as claimed in claim 1, in which the insert comprises a case with perforated walls and the conservation substance is particulate, the perforations being smaller than the particles.
4. A device as claimed in claim 1, in which the insert comprises a plate.
5. A device as claimed in any preceding claims, in which the insert extends substantially in the general direction of the flow of the cutting liquid through the vessel.
6. A device for continuous conservation of a cutting liquid, substantially as described with reference to and as illustrated in Figures 1 and 2 or Figures 3 and 4 of the accompanying drawings.
