Abstract
216,352. Ryley, J. A., and Lee, L. S. June 12, 1923. Removing wheels from shafts.-A device for removing from their axles wheel hubs of the kind having a flange, brake-drum, &c. provided with bolts or studs by which the wheel is attached, comprises a boss with radial arms or othar means adapted to be connected to the bolts and a screw spindle threading through the boss for exerting pressure on the end of the axle. Radial arms 1 are disposed at varying angles on the boss 2 and are adapted to be connected to the wheel bolts 5, extending from a flange on the hub 4, by means of shoes 6 each provided with a hole 9 to engage a bolt 5 and with a slot 7 for adjustable attachment to an arm 1 bv a bolt 8. The threaded spindle 3 carries a thrust block 12 rotatably and removably secured to the end of the spindle by spring-pressed balls 14 engaging an annular groove 15 in the inner wall of the recess in which the spindle end engages as shown in Fig. 5. Thrust blocks with differently shaped ends may be employed. The modification shown in Fig. 6 comprises a circular steel plate 1 of dished formation having holes 9 to receive the wheel bolts.
