Drying colloidal substances.-In a process for the mechanical production of solid drv colloidal substances, the substances suspended in a liquid are first reduced to the colloidal state and are then directly transferred by means of an atomizing-device into a drying-apparatus. The material, reduced in a casing B by the action of a conical runner A, is discharged by a helical blade into the tangential outlet socket O. A nozzle K supplied with hot compressed air extends into a chamber G on the top of the socket 0 and at right-angles thereto. The jet of air serves to atomize the colloidal solution and throws it against an inclined baffle-plate I mounted in the upper part of a chamber H in which the material is dried as it falls. The casing B is cooled by water &c.
