Abstract
215,887. Oppenheim, R. March 7, 1923. Waterproofing; proofing processes; proofing compositions. -A porous jar a of a galvanic battery is rendered waterproof but permeable to gases by introducing a metal soap into the pores of the jar. This may be done by immersing the jar first in a boiling solution of Marseilles soap and then in a solution of a metal salt such as zinc chloride. In another method the jar is filled with one of the solutions and then immersed in a vessel containing the other solution. The jar may be made of ceramic ware or may consist of a bag of fabric such as hemp, jute, cotton, &c. In the latter case the metal salt employed is preferably in colloidal solution. Specification 211,832 is referred to.
