Abstract

215,429. Holttum, W. R. Nov. 6, 1923. Ironing - machines with pressing action only; steaming apparatus for. -In the class of machine wherein a pair of supports for the clothes is alternately brought opposite a steamheated hollow press head, the supports 9 carry boards 10 covered with absorbent material 15 and are provided with projections 13 that fit into recesses 12 in vertical standards 11 carried by a support 8 that is rotatably mounted on a vertical member 2. Three vertical members 2 are provided, and they are bridged by a plate 3 that carries the press head 4. The press head comprises a pair of dished plates 5, 6, Fig. 5, bolted together to enclose a space A, steam being allowed to escape therefrom through a series of orifices 38 in the lower plate. Steam is passed into the hollow space A through a pipe 26, Fig. 1. Cast in the plates 5, 6 are sinuous lengths of tubing, 7, Fig. 3 through which another supply of steam is passed. The clothes support beneath the press head is raised into contact therewith by a hydraulic ram 30 which engages a shank 10<a> contacting with the projection 13. The upper face of the lower member 6 may be made sloping.
