Abstract
215,156. Leitner, H. March 17, 1923. Screw propellers.-Hollow metal screw propeller blades after being subjected to a normalizing process, are then hammered so that the middle portion of the pressure face has a double curve which is convex at the leading edge and concave for the remainder of the face. The stem is also worked up to form flanges whereby the blade can be held in the boss against centrifugal forces. The sheets are of tapering thickness and have one or more internal stiffening ribs. In addition, cross-members may connect the two faces for stiffening purposes. The blades are formed with main plates b of tapering thickness and a number of laminations d, the former having two parallel internal stiffening ribs h. The faces may be connected by cross-stays consisting of a hollow tubular strut with a rivet j passing therethrough, or by a box-shaped member m<1> with two opposite sides riveted at n<1>. After normalizing, the blade is hammered until the pressure face has the double curve which provides a " Phillips Entry." Specification 181.110 is referred to in the second Provisional Specification.
