Abstract
215,119. Kuehnrich, P. R. Feb. 8, 1923. Annealing.-Ingots and other castings are tupped from the mould as soon as set sufficiently to avoid risk of bleeding and while the coolest part of the surface is from 100‹ to 200‹ C. above the recalescence point. The ingot &c. is immediately placed in a container and packed round with a material such as kieselguhr, the quantity being such that the ingot takes at least 96 hours to become cold. The process is stated to be particularly useful in the manufacture of high speed nickel chromium, molten, and other special steel alloys.
