Abstract

214,870. Kershaw, A. G., and Westinghouse Brake & Saxby Signal Co., Ltd. June 21, 1923. Signals and points, interlocking; wire and like compensators.-A detector for railway signals with double wire transmission comprises a pair of wheels 3, 4, mounted to rotate about a common axis 2, and a disc 9, serving as a locking bolt to co-act with the slides 11, mounted between the wheels 3, 4 and rotated when both wheels are rotated in the same direction for operating the signals but not moved when they rotate oppositely as when the operating wires 5, 6 expand or contract. The wires 5, 6 are wound several times round the wheels 3, 4 respectively but in opposite directions, so that the reverse movements of the two wires in operation of a signal produce similar movements of the wheels 3, 4 which carry toothed discs 20, 18 engaging, one directly and the other through an idle wheel, pinions 17, 16 on a spindle 14 carried by the disc.
