Abstract
214,759. Munyard, A. R. Feb. 7, 1923. Addition to 154,277. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Balancing.-In an automatic balancing device as claimed in the parent Specification, the solenoids actuate the valves of pneumatic apparatus for initiating the movement of power mechanism for actuating the ailerons. The solenoid armatures 29 controlled by inclined troughs 33, 34 containing beads of mercury 38 as described in the parent Specification actuate valves 25 for controlling the supply of compressed air to cylinders 15 in which work pistons connected by rods 14 to bevel gears 6 movable on a shaft 5. When one or other of the bevel gears 6 is moved inwards into gear with a bevel wheel 3 on the engine shaft a worm 7 on the shaft 5 drives a worm-wheel 8 in a shaft 9 having a drum 10 on which is wound a cable 11 connected to the ailerons. There may be a clutch between the drum 10 and the shaft 9 to enable the automatic mechanism to be cut out. The ailerons actuate switches which in conjunction with inner contacts 37 in the troughs 33, 34 and outer windings on the solenoids, all as described in the parent Specification, restore the ailerons to their normal positions. Springs 55' restore the armatures 29 to their normal position.
