Abstract

213,807. Fitch, B. F. June 6, 1923. Handling transferable vehicle bodies; overhead travellers and transporters.-Relates to the svstem of transporting package freight in removable vehicle bodies which are transferred from motor vehicles to railway trucks and vice versa. In order to load a number of trains on trucks 12 ready for despatch without shunting, the bodies A of the road-vehicles C are transferred direct to the appropriate railway truck according to destination. For this prpose, a crane 10 on rails 11, 11 straddles the road 13 and railway tracks 12. The crane comprises an overhead traveller 14 for hoisting and transferring the bodies.
