Abstract
266,793. Fitch, B. r. Nov. 24, 1925. Handling transferable vehicle bodies; platforms. -A station for handling freight loaded in transferable vehicle bodies 13 comprises a subway 30 for motor vehicles extending transversely beneath a platform 10, and a travelling crane 20 for transferring the bodies to and from the platform through the well 35. As shown, railway tracks 16, 17 run alongside the platform, which is extended laterally to provide spaces 14 and 15 for transferring goods between trains and waiting bodies. The crane is at a height which permits of moving one body 13 over another. The subway 30 is wider than the approach roads to provide room for standing vehicles. The well 35 extends across the width of the subway, so that the crane may be used for transferring bodies from one waiting vehicle to another. The subway may cross the centre of the station platform, and a station may be provided with several subways. Specification 266,792 is referred to.
