Abstract

213,708. Alexander, A. E., (Stokes & Smith Co.). Jan. 22, 1923. Coating-machines.-In apparatus for gumming sheets of paper for making boxes or other purposes, the sheets are taken from a pile supported by adjustable walls 13, 14 on a table 12 by a reciprpcaaing suction roller 56 and separator 57 and delivered to a gumming roll 52 which receives gum from a roller 35 dipping into a trough 19. The trough 19 is enclosed in a trough 20 which serves as a water jacket and can be heated by steam. The trough 20 is mounted on bell-crank levers 25 and can be raised and lowered by a liandle 29 and held in position by a pawl 30. When it is desired to clean the rollers, the trough 19 may be drawn backwards by a screw. 37 and the trough 20 raised until the roller 35 dips into the water. From the roll 51 the sheets pass to a conveyer 68.
