Abstract

In order to reduce the danger involved in pushing an infant carriage across the road in poor visibility or at night at least one of the wheels of the carriage on each side thereof is provided with reflecting means for reflecting light from the headlight of a vehicle. The means may be a prismatic reflector forming part of, or mounted on, a hub cap of the carriage wheel, or a fluorescent strip.

Description

SPECIFICATION Improvements relating to infant carriages This invention relates to infant carriages, for example perambulators and pushchairs.
It is an object of the invention to reduce the danger involved in pushing infant carriages across the road in poor visibility or at night, In accordance with the invention at least one and preferably each one, of the wheels of an infant carriage or each side of the carriage is provided with reflecting means for reflecting light from the headlight of a vehicle.
Preferably each reflecting means is formed as a disc which is mounted on or forms a hub cap for the wheel on which it is provided. It is contemplated that the reflecting means may comprise a prismatic reflecting element capable of reflecting a white, red or orange light when a vehicle headlight shines on it.
However, the reflecting means may comprise an element provided with a fluorescent coating or a strip of fluorescent material.
As will be appreciated, light from the headlight of a vehicle approaching a carriage provided with reflecting means as described above will illuminate and/or reflect therefrom to indicate to the driver of the approaching vehicle the presence of the carriage which may be positioned on the pavement in readiness to being pushed across the road, be emerging from behind a parked vehicle, or being pushed across the road.
CLAIMS (Filed on 12.10.83) 1. An infant carriage in which at least one of the wheels on each side of the carriage is provided with reflecting light from the headlight of a vehicle.
2. A carriage as claimed in claim 1, wherein each wheel on each side of the carriage is provided with a said reflecting means.
3. A carriage as claimed in claim 1 or 2, wherein each reflecting means is formed as a disc which is mounted on or forms the hub cap for the wheel on which it is provided.
4. A carriage as claimed in any one of the precedings claims, wherein each reflecting means comprises a prismatic reflecting element capable of reflecting a white, red or orange light when a vehicle headlight shines on it.
5. A carriage as claimed in any one of claims 1 to 3, wherein each reflecting means comprises an element provided with a fluorescent coating or a strip of fluorescent material.
