Abstract

A story book together with items representing characters or equipment referred to in the story are packaged in a box which itself looks like a book.

Description

SPECIFICATION Children's playbooks The concept behind the production of PETERAN NIKEL PLAYBOOKS (CHILDREN'S PLAYBOOKS) is the combination of the written word and items of play value presented and packaged in such a way that they provide an enhanced form of recreation beyond that of the individual items. By the use of co-ordinated play items such as dolls, model animals, and model equipmentthe story told in the accompanying books unfold in such a way as to involve the young reader in their action.
PETERANNIKEL PLAYBOOKS are unique in their presentation of a complete recreational toy. The central character, 'PETERANNIKEL', will be present in all stories written and will undertake a series of activities and adventures. A special doll will be produced to characterise 'PETERANNIKEL'. This will be supplied in the initial pack or volume and possibly in further key volumes but will not be repeated in all sub-subsequent volumes although accessories will be included to offer variation to the basic character and to build up a complete toy. Each set of accessories will relate specifically to the volume with which they are packaged. A selection of additional characters will be produced which will in themselves become an integral part of the theme running throughout the volumes. These will be developed as the series grows in size and will become major figures in their own right. They should form part of this patent as they will be totally integrated with the main idea and will develop with it. The specific characters will be SPACE ACE and BERNIE BEAR.
They will be produced specifically for PETERAN NIKEL PLAYBOOKS and will not be reproductions of other products on the market. Final designs have not been completed and hence will not be included in this application for patent. However, the names SPACE ACE and BERNIE BEAR should be protected by this patent, as should PETERANNIKEL PLAY BOOKS.
The packaging will be designed such that each complete set of story book plus accessories will be presented as a volume in a box, bound and covered to look like a traditional book.
Cover designs will be specific to the plot of the story book but will be enclosed within a standard format and in a standard colour scheme to provide continuity throughout the series. This is illustrated in Figures 1 to 3. Figure 1 is an example of the external cover of the box while Figure 2 illustrates the spine.
Figure 3 is an example of a typical internal packaging although this will vary with the contents of the volume.
CLAIMS (Filed on 26.1.84) 1. PETERANNlKELPLAYBOOKS (CHILDREN'S PLAYBOOKS) is an entirely original concept of co-ordinating toys and books into a single package to provide a full recreational and educational item.
By providing toys (dolls, animals, equipment) to illustrate significant points within the story of each book the young are able to relate to the characters with items they can see and feel. This is particularly important when dealing with education topics as it removes the abstract and replaces it with the physical which can be much more easily comprehended by children. Each package will be presented as a 'Volume' containing a book and toys, being in the shape of a large book.
2. The main character in Chiidrens Playbooks will be PETERANNIKEL supported by BERNIE BEAR and SPACE ACE. Additional characters may be added as the different volumes are produced and in each case will be totally original, not using any established characters.
