Abstract

Sunken objects, indicating position of. - In apparatus for locating the position of sunken objects &c. of the type in which a float or buoy is released by the pressure of the water acting on a spring-pressed valve, the float unwinding cord from a drum as it rises to the surface, the float N is fitted. within a tubular casing A and is secured therein by a sensitive spring or springs M engaging a notched arm N<a> integral with the float. The float is attached bv a cord P to a drum E which revolves on a spindle F supported by the casing A, while the sensitive springs Mare carried by other springs L fixed to the spindle C<b> of the hydrostatic valve C. The valve C, adapted to open under a predetermined pressure is normally retained on its seat by a spring B, and the casing A is open to the water at both ends. In operation, when the object sinks beyond the depth whereat the pressure is sufficient to open the valve C, the movement of the valve and its spindle C<b> towards the float will cause the springs L, M to fly off the projections N<a> on the float thus releasing said float and allowing it to rise to the surface. The buoy may contain a chamber for carrying a substance which is spontaneously ignited on contact with water. Specification 20512/12 is referred to.
