Abstract

212,980. Armstrong, Whitworth, & Co., Ltd., Sir W. G., and Morrison, R. Dec. 18, 1922. Sights and methods of sighting.-Relates to director sights which, on being moved in elevation to follow the target, act through a differential gear to impose, a correction on the ordinary range transmission. According to the invention (1) the director sight is connected to the differential gear through irreversible gearing so that elevational movement is not imparted to the sight during range transmission, and (2) the director sight is connected to a cage carrying the planetary pinions of the differential gear. In the form shown, range setting is effected by a hand-wheel 5 which is turned in accordance with the indications of a " follow-the-pointer " device arranged in a box P, to rotate the range transmitter T through the bevel wheels 7, 10, 11 of the differential gear. The director sight 14 is moved to follow the target by a hand-wheel 16 which, through irreversible worm gearing 15, drives the cage 12 carrying the director sight 14 and the planetary pinions 10 of the differential gear.
