Abstract

A hitch pin, comprises a cylindrical rod (1) terminating at one end in a head (3) on which there is mounted a ring (5) of smaller diameter than the length of the rod (1). The rod (1) has a longitudinal flat (2), while the head (3) of the rod is provided at the top with a groove (4) in which the ring (5) is housed and retained. The ring (5) is open and the ends thereof are superimposed to permit the manual opening thereof, so that once the hitch pin is mounted, the ring (5) can be moved to the other part or face of the rod (1). <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Hitch pin for agricultural uses The present invention refers to a hitch pin for agricultural uses, which has specifically been designed as a meand for insuring the attachment, for example, between a tractor and an agricultural machine, such as a plough or any other element to be hauled by the tractor itself.
At present, a tractor is joined to an agricultural machine to be hauled thereby through a pin whose head incorporates a closed circular ring. Thus, the mentioned pin is housed in a diametral by-pass hole made for such purpose in a cylindrical projection pertaining, for example, to the agricultural machine to be attached to the tractor, wherefore the pin itself constitutes a butt to prevent the mentioned projection of the agricultural machine from becoming detached from the corresponding element pertaining to the tractor, which element is normally comprised of an end piece provided with a circular hole in which the cylindrical projection of the agricultural machine will precisely be housed, so that once it is introduced in the mentioned hole of the end piece corresponding to the element for attaching the tractor to said cylindrical projection of the agricultural machine, the pin will immediately be disposed in the diametral hole of the mentioned cylindrical projection of the agricultural machine to prevent, as previously mentioned, both parts, i.e. the projection itself of the agricultural machine and the end piece pertaining to the tractor from being detached.
The drawback of this conventional form of joining or attaching resides in that as a result of the vibrations and knocks which are produced in the circulation and/or work of the tractor which hauls the corresponding agricultural machine, the pin can, as frequently happens, emerge from the hole in which it is housed and the corresponding uncoupling between the attached elements is produced, thereby causing problems such as accidents, breakage of the hauled machine, etc.
To prevent the drawback and the consequent problems mentioned in the preceding paragraph, the invention proportions a new type of hitch pin for attachment, for example, of a tractor and an agricultural machine to be hauled thereby. The mentioned pin made in accordance with the invention is characterized in that the circular ring incorporated at its head is open and the ends thereof are superimposed, forming the closure of the ring itself, but permitting, by the corresponding manual operation thereof, same to be opened so that it can be disposed at one side or the other of the pin, since the diameter of such ring is smaller than the length of the pin.
Thus, once the pin is housed in the diametral hole provided in the cylindrical projection of the agricultural machine, the ring can be disposed, by its corresponding opening, on the inner face of the pin, thereby preventing the pin from emerging from its hole, inasmuch as the ring embrasing the cylindrical projection pertaining to the agricultural machine will butt against said cylindrical projection and it will in turn butt against the area corresponding to the free end of the pin. Thus, since the ring is disposed at the inner face of the pin and since this is longer than the diameter of the ring, a blocking of the mentioned pin is caused which prevents it from moving upwards and consequently emerging from the hole in which it is housed.
Consequently, the hitch pin for agricultural uses of the present invention constitutes a safety means in the attachment between a tractor and an agricultural machine or between other agricultural implements to be likewise attached.
Consequently, the object of the invention is to insure the attachment between, for example, a tractor and an agricultural machine, so that the pin which insures said attachment or joining is comprised of a cylindrical rod, the complete length of which presents a bevel determining a flat surface thereof, one of the ends of said rod ending in a head provided at the top with a groove whose bottom widens in a circular shape so that there is retained therein the corresponding safety ring which is open and whose diameter is smaller than the length of the rod. Thus, once the mentioned pin or rod is housed in the corresponding hole, the ring will be opened manually to move it to the opposite side of the rod or pin, thereby insuring the correct operating position of said pin and preventing the corresponding joined elements from becoming uncoupled.
To complement the description which will now be made and for a better understanding of the characteristics of the invention, there is accompanied to this specification a set of drawings wherein, by way of example, the following is represented: Figure 1 illustrates a perspective view of the pin and the corresponding ring made in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 represents a view of the pin mounted in the hole of a cylindrical projection, illustrating the manual opening of a ring so that same is positioned at the inner face of the pin.
Figure 3 illustrates a side elevational view of the pin, insuring the attachment between the two elements joined together.
Figure 4 illustrates another perspective view of the pin applied to the centre of a long shaft to which it is likewise perfectly attached without any possibility of emerging.
Referring to the mentioned figures, there can be seen the pin of the invention comprised of a preferably cylindrical rod 1, the complete length of which has a bevel determining a flat face 2 finished off, at one of its ends, in a head 3 which is provided at the top with a groove 4 whose bottom widens in a circular shape for the housing of an open ring 5 which is circular and whose ends 6 are superimposed.
The application of a thusly made pin is as follows: If, for example, a tractor is to be attached to an agricultural machine, for which purpose the agricul- tural machine has an end cylindrical projection 7 and the tractor has an also end piece 8, where the cylindrical projection 7 is provided, close to its free end, with a diametral hole 9 in which there will be housed the rod 1 constituting the pin of the inven tion, and in which the end piece 8 of the tractor is provided with another hole for the passage of the cylindrical projection 7, then once the mentioned cylindrical projection 7 is housed in the hole provided in the price 8, as illustrated in Figure 3, the rod or pin 1 is introduced in the mentioned hole 9 of the cylindrical projection 7, the ring 5 being positioned at the outer part of the rod 1, and thus to insure the attachment it will be necessary to open thering 5, as illustrated in Figure 2, separating the superimposed ends 6 until the mentioned ring 5 is in contact with the flat surface 2 of the rod 1 itself.
Thus, since the length of the rod 1 is longer than the diameter of the ring 5, the rod is prevented from emerging from the corresponding hole 9 in which it is housed. This is due to the fact that the mentioned diameter of the ring 5 is smaller than the length of the rod 1 and the ring will butt against the cylindrical projection 7, thereby preventing the rod from moving and consequently from emerging from the hole in which it is housed.
Finally, Figure 4 illustrates another application of the pin of the invention, which is housed in a diametral hole provided in a long shaft 10 which, at one side or the other of the corresponding lateral hole in which the rod or pin 1 is housed, defines stretches having a considerably longer length than the diameter of the ring 5. Thus, it is clear that there is no possibility of the rod 1 emerging from the mentioned hole.
To permit the uncoupling illustrated in Figure 3, it will be sufficient to re-open the ends 6 of the ring 5 and to move it to the outer part or face of the rod 1, thereby permitting the ring 5 to turn upwards, since the end part of the cylindrical projection 7 is perfectly secured and, thus the rod 1 can be withdrawn and consequently the cylindrical projection 7 pertaining, for example, to the agricultural machine can be uncoupled from the piece 8 joined thereto.
