Abstract

A kitchen range hood has a range hood body (1) comprising a duct of an inverted L-shaped cross section and supported by a rear kitchen wall (5) and a discharge duct (6) communicating with the inverted L-shaped duct and having a gas discharging fan (7). The range hood body has lower and upper inlets (4) and (12, 13) respectively formed in lower and upper portions (2) and (3) respectively thereof. Most of the emulsion from a kitchen range (8) during cooking is drawn through the lower inlet (4) into the inverted L-shaped duct, and the remaining emission is drawn through the upper inlets (12, 13) into the inverted L-shaped duct. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Kitchen range hood The present invention relates to a kitchen range hood.
Conventional kitchen range hoods are disposed at a spaced location above a cook top around a gas burner. The prior kitchen range hood has an inlet positioned upwardly of the source, on the cook top, of a combusted gas, oil and water vapor which are emitted during cooking. Since the inlet is located remotely from the cook top, it fails to discharge the undesirable gas, oil or water vapor completely.
Therefore, walls surrounding the kitchen range tend to be coated with a deposit of oil. The known kitchen range hood is also disadvantageous in that the user of the kitchen range is subjected to discomfort as a hot gas such as a combusted gas rises and the user is liable to inhale such a dirty gas.
The present invention provides a kitchen range hood for attachment to a kitchen wall, comprising (a) a kitchen range hood body comprising a duct of an inverted L-shaped cross section composed of a front hollow panel adapted to be vertically supported by the kitchen wall and having a thermally insulating plate adapted to be interposed therebetween and an upper hollow panel attached horizontaily to an upper portion of said front hollow panel and having a thermally insulating plate mounted on an upper surface of the upper hollow panel; (b) a discharge duct communicating with said duct of the inverted L-shaped cross section and adapted to extend through the kitchen wall, said discharge duct having gas discharging means for discharging an emitted gas from said duct of the inverted L-shaped cross section out of said discharge duct; (c) a lower inlet in a lower portion of said front hollow panel for drawing the emitted gas into said front hollow panel; and (d) at least one upper inlet in a lower surface of said upper hollow panel for drawing the emitted gas into said upper hollow panel.
In use of the present invention, a combusted gas, oil and water vapor emitted during cooking on a kitchen range are discharged through an inlet located adjacent to a source of such a gas immediately after the gas has been given off. A small amount of gas, oil and water vapor emitted upwardly away from the inlet is discharged through an upper inlet.
The kitchen range hood of the invention allows a storage cabinet to be positioned in a space which would be taken up by a conventional kitchen range hood, resulting in an increased accommodating capability in a kitchen. The kitchen range hood then has a body in the form of a panel extending from a bottom of the storage cabinet down to a rear guard of a cook top of the kitchen range on which a gas burner is disposed. The range hood panel serves to protect surrounding walls from being smeared with oily deposits. The thermally insulating plates are not essential but, where provided, serve as a fire protection board. The kitchen range hood of the present invention can easily be mounted in place, requiring only a discharge duct to extend through a kitchen wall. The discharge duct which discharges an emitted gas out of the kitchen is preferably positioned at a height of 1.5 m or more from the ground, and can find effective use in areas where much snow is expected to be deposited in the ground.
A specific embodiment of the present invention will now be described by way of example, and not by way of limitation, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a vertical cross-sectional view of a kitchen range hood according to the present invention; and Figure 2 is a front elevational view of the kitchen range hood shown in Figure 1.
With reference to the accompanying drawings, the kitchen range hood includes a body 1 composed of a vertically extending front hollow panel 2 and an upper hollow panel 3 extending substantially horizontally and removably joined to an upper end of the front hollow panel 2 in communication therewith.
The kitchen range hood body 1 thus constitutes a duct of an inverted L-shaped cross section. The front panel 2 has in its lower end a lower inlet 4 opening obliquely upwardly into the interior of a kitchen in which the kitchen range hood is installed. The kitchen range hood body 1 is removably attached to a rear kitchen wall 5 through which extends a discharge duct 6 joined to and communicating with the front panel 2. A gas discharging means such as a ventilation fan 7 is disposed in the discharge duct 6 for discharging a gas from the kitchen range hood body 1. A kitchen range has a cook top 8 located downwardly of the kitchen range hood body 1, there being a gas burner 8a mounted on the cook top 8.
A protective grating 9 is mounted on and extends over the entrance of the lower inlet 4 for preventing foreign matter from entering the lower inlet 4. The front panel 2 has a grease filter 10 disposed therein adjacent to the lower inlet 4 for collecting oil and water vapor. The front hollow panel 2 contains a pan 11 placed adjacent to the lower inlet 4 and below the grease filter 10 for receiving oil and water dripping from the grease filter 10.
The upper panel 3 has a plurality of upper louvered inlets 12, 13 (two in the illustrated embodiment) formed in a lower surface thereof. The kitchen range hood body 1 has guide vanes 14 located in corners thereof for preventing the discharge efficiency from being lowered due to gas swirls in the hood body 1 and also for suppressing noise produced therein. An illumination lamp 16 with a switch 15 is attached to a front end of the upper panel 3. A storage cabinet 17 is normally installed on the upper panel 3 against the rear wall 5. A thermally insulating plate 18 such as a slate is interposed between the rear surface of the kitchen range hood body 1 and the storage cabinet 17 and the rear wall 5.
Operation of the kitchen range hood thus constructed will now be described.
When cooking is started by igniting the gas burner 8a on the cook top 8 of the kitchen range, a combusted gas is emitted from the gas burner 8a and oil and water vapor is given off from the material being cooked on the gas burner 8a (the combusted gas and the oil and water vapor will hereinafter be referred to collectively as an "emitted gas"). Most of the emitted gas is drawn through the lower inlet 4 and discharged through the duct 6 out of the ventilation fan 7 in the directions of the arrows Al, A2, A3. At this time, oil and water vapor borne in the emitted gas is collected by the grease filter 10 and drops as droplets into the pan 11. Accordingly, the emitted gas as discharged out of the discharge duct 6 is cleaned and has a less tendency to contaminate surroundings of the ventilation fan 7.The interior of the range hood body 1 and also the ventilation fan 7 are less liable to be smeared with oily deposits. A portion of the emitted gas which is not drawn into the lower inlet 4 flows in the directions of the arrows B1, B2, B3 and is drawn through the upper inlets 12, 13 into the upper panel 3, from which the emitted gas is discharged through the discharge duct 6.
Consequently, any emitted gas given off from the kitchen range is substantially drawn into the kitchen range hood without contaminating surroundings and annoying the user of the kitchen range. The thermally insulating plate 18 attached to the back of the range hood body 1 gives a sufficient fire protection capability. The kitchen range hood body 1 can easily be disassembled into the front and upper panels 2,3 for allowing their inner and outer surfaces and the grease filter 10 to be cleaned with ease.
