Description

SPECIFICATION Setting tool for driving in a threaded rod The invention relates to a setting tool for driving in a threaded rod into a base, particularly for driving it into a drilled hole in which is situated a mortar or glue capsule, the tool having a shank which, in use, is clamped in the chuck of an impact drilling maching and the rotational and impact movement for the breaking of the capsule and mixing its contents is transmitted to the threaded rod by a carrier sleeve in which is formed an engagement surface for the limitation of the screw-in movement of the threaded rod.
Such a setting tool for driving in a threaded rod or a similar anchoring rod provided at its rear end with a thread, particularly a chemical anchor, is described in German Patent Specification 21 34 781. The known setting tool should after driving in of the threaded rod achieve a simple and reliable disconnection from the carrier sleeve. A radially extending bolt is provided for this purpose in the carrier sleeve, the peripheral surface of the bolt serving as a stop surface for the rear end of the threaded rod. Jamming of the threaded rod in the carrier sleeve, which takes place during setting, is avoided by turning of the bolt provided with a flat surface. The flat surface affords releasability of the stop so that the possibly firmly screwed threaded rod may be again easily removed from the carrier sleeve.
Another design by means of which a threaded rod jammed in a setting tool may be released is known from German utility model 81 03 545. As a stop serves in this setting tool a narrowing end of a threaded bore for receiving the threaded rod.
The threaded bore is formed in a two-part carrier member the halves of which may be laterally disconnected to release the jammed end of a threaded rod.
With both known setting tools jamming is accepted as inevitable and subsequently release is effected. For this are needed numerous elements so that known setting tools are trouble-prone, heavy and expensive.
Using this state of the art as a basis the aim of the invention is to devise a setting tool of the above-mentioned kind which is light, of simple design and enables, without the danger of jamming, fast setting in position of threaded rods and other anchoring rods provided with a thread.
This is achieved according to the invention in that the engagement surface is the end surface of a carrier peg which may be helically inserted into the carrier sleeve on the side opposite to the threaded rod and which may be clamped by its shank in the chuck. The rotatably displaceable carrier peg bears during setting by its end face on to the rear end of the threaded rod. Due to the helical guiding with a relatively large pitch angle jamming of the carrier peg in the carrier sleeve is impossible. However, transmission of torque to the carrier sleeve and threaded rod is possible by the helically guided carrier peg.
Due to its simple design a setting tool according to the invention needs no means for releasing jamming. This saves not only weight but also time because the user need not after every setting of a threaded rod in position take releasing steps as has hitherto been necessary. The carrier sleeve of a setting tool according to the invention can be easily screwed by hand from the threaded rod.
A carrier peg according to the invention is provided with a helical groove into which engages, in the inserted state, at ieast one guiding pin provided in the carrier sleeve and extending radially inwards into the hole passing through the sleeve.
It is advantageous if the carrier peg has a first portion of smaller diameter, which is formed as a shank, and a second portion of larger diameter, which faces the drilled hole and in which is made the helical groove.
In a preferred embodiment the helical groove extends at one end up to the end face of the carrier peg and at the other end to an annular groove formed at the end at the shank and extends around the periphery of the carrier peg at right angles to the longitudinal axis.
The depth of insertion of the shank into the chuck of an impact drilling machine is preferably limited by a stop coliar.
It is advantageous when the inner diameter of the guiding portion for the carrier peg is smaller than the inner diameter of the threaded portion for the threaded rod, because this enables screwing in of the carrier peg so far that it enters the region of the threaded portion. In a preferred embodiment a widened portion is provided between the guiding portion and the threaded portion, the widened portion enabling deep screwing in of the threaded rod.
The pitch angle of the helical groove is so chosen that when the setting tool is used no jamming is possible. Advantageous is a pitch angle of the order of 300.
To be able to use various threaded rods with various threads, various carrier sleeves may be used the guiding portion of which is always the same so that a single carrier peg may be used with a plurality of carrier sleeves for the use of threaded rods of all kinds.
The invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying diagrammatic drawing. In the drawing: Figure 1 is a side view, partly in section, of a setting tool according to the invention together with a chuck and a threaded rod, and Figure 2 is a section along iine Il-Il in plan.
As is apparent from Fig. 1 the setting tool 1 serves for the setting in position of a threaded rod 2, provided with a thread 3, in a drilled hole 4 which has been drilled in a base 5 a part of which is shown in the drawing. The threaded rod 2 is used together with a mortar or glue capsule (not shown) as a so-called chemical anchor. The threaded rod 2 is for this purpose driven by a drilling or impact drilling machine, the chuck 6 of which is shown in Fig. 1, by a rotatory and/or a rotary and impact movement which breaks open the body of the capsule in the drilled hole 4.
The setting tool 1 comprises a carrier peg 11 and a carrier sleeve 7 which has a central throughhole 8 therethrough.
The throughhole 8 has three portions. At the end of the carrier sleeve 7 at the drilled hole 4 is a threaded portion 9 in which is screwed the thread 3 of the threaded rod 2. At the opposite end of the throughhole 8 is a smooth guiding portion 10 in which is guided and mounted the carrier peg 11.
Between the guiding portion 10 and the threaded portion 9 is a widened portion 12 of the throughhole 8.
The carrier peg 11 , which is rotatably displaceably guided in the guiding portion 10, bears with its end face 1 3 on to the rear end of the threaded rod 2. Starting from the end face 13 a helical groove 14 is formed in the carrier peg 11 which opens at the end facing away from the end face 13 into a circular peripheral groove 1 5 which extends in a plane at right angles to the longitudinal axis of the carrier peg 11. The width of the helical groove 14 is constant and adapted to the outer diameter of guiding pins 1 6 so that the carrier peg 11 may be inserted into, and removed from, the carrier sleeve 7 by a helical movement like a screw.Due to the large pitch angle of the helical groove 14, which is of the order of 300, a few turns are sufficient to introduce the carrier peg 11 into the carrier sleeve 7 or to remove it therefrom.
As is apparatus from Figure 1 and Figure 2 the guiding pins 1 6 cooperate with the helical groove 14 so that guiding is obtained which is similar to that achieved by a thread without the danger of jamming. The guiding pins 1 6 extend from a flat surface 1 7 radially into the guiding portion 10 of the throughhole 8. Inwardly pointing ends of the guiding pins 1 6 extend up to the vicinity of the core 1 8 of the helical portion of the carrier peg 11 as is apparent particularly from Figure 2. Both the guiding pins 1 6 extend radially opposite to each other and are axially displaced according to the pitch of the helical groove 14.
Figure 1 shows above the circular groove 1 5 a stop collar 19 which bears on to the end face of the chuck 6. The carrier peg 11 is clamped in the chuck 6 by a shank 20 shown in dashed lines.
The setting in position with the use of the setting tool 1 begins in that first the carrier sleeve 7 is screwed on to the threaded rod 2 so far that the rod is sufficiently guided in the threaded portion 9. Then the carrier peg 11 is inserted into the guiding portion 10 such that the guiding pins 1 6 engage in the helical groove 14, and the carrier peg 11 is turned until its end face 13 engages the rear end of the threaded rod 2 which prevents further screwing in of the threaded rod 2 into the carrier sleeve 7. In the next step the shank 20 of the carrier peg 11 is clamped in the chuck 6. The large pitch of the helical groove 14 prevents during the impacting/rotating movement of the setting tool 1 jamming of the carrier peg 11 so that at the end of the setting operation the carrier peg 11 may be easily removed from the carrier sleeve 7 and the carrier sleeve 7 can equally easily be screwed off the threaded rod 2. This may be easily performed by hand without the need of an additional tool because the pitch of the helical groove is so large that self-locking or jamming cannot take place. However transmission of the torque necessary for the setting operation is ensured. This brings about considerable time saving particuiarly in a series installation with the setting tool 1.
