Clutches, friction.-In clutches having a male cone 2 with a leather or like friction surface band 1 secured by rivets 4, additional means are provided to lash or clamp the band 1 down to the cone 2. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 1, 2, metal wire 16 is wound round the band in a recess 3 in the same, the ends 5 of the wire passed through the band and cone and hooked over a member 6 with a soldered joint 7. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 6, the band 1 is stitched on by a wire 15. In the arrangement shown in Figs. 4, 5, a flat metal strip 10 is used as a lashing. A screw 17 passes through registering holes 11 in the ends of the strip, and the strip is rendered tight by a purchase screw 14. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 3, the edges of the band 1 project under overhanging ridges 9 upon the cone 2.
