Abstract

212,078. Goolden, A. C., Moore, H., and Macnaughtan, D. J. Feb. 17, 1923. Projectiles.-Driving bands are made from a band or strip of composite metal comprising a base layer of one metal such as mild steel and a top layer of soft metal, such as soft iron, electrolytically deposited on the base layer, having a thickness greater than the depth of engraving produced by the rifling of the gun on firing. Preferably an intermediate layer of copper is deposited electrolytically before the top layer.
