Abstract
A mop 16 comprises a handle 12 having a socket 8 at its end into which is screwed a collar 5 on which is mounted an end ring 4 of a mop head. The threads 1 of the mop head form a bundle which is bound at its upper end with a tape 4'. The tape is wound around a sleeve 13 which can slide and twist on the handle 12. The tape is secured to the sleeve by engagement of eyelets 10 with pegs 15 on the sleeve and by placing eyelet 10' on threaded bolt 11 and securing it thereon by nut 21. Threaded bolt 11 is carried by the tape and may project from a peg 18 provided with an endplate 17 and annular bead 19. Peg 18 passes through tape 4' and may be held in position by stretchable washer 20. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Cleaning tool
The invention relates to a cleaning appliance with a handle which is essentially rod-shaped, on which a sleeve is located in a manner permitting twisting and sliding, and in which appliance a mop, scrubbing cloth, or similar device can be fastened at one end of the rod-shaped handle, and to the sleeve, the mop, or similar device, possessing a finishing tape, being wound around the sleeve, in the peripheral direction thereof, and being secured in its position by means of threaded bolts and nuts.
In the case of the solution which is known, for example, from German Offenlegungsschrift 2,938,577, it is, however, necessary to anchor the threaded bolts in the handle, this process necessitating relatively complicated operations.
Furthermore, German Offenlegungsschrift 2,740,417 discloses a cleaning appliance in which the mop is fastened to the sleeve by means of two press-buttons. The disadvantage of this solution resides in the fact that the press-buttons, or one portion of the latter, can be fastened to the sleeve only by incurring significant assembly costs.
Moreover, press-buttons quickly become loose, as a result of which the strength of the connection suffers and the press-buttons frequently become undone when this is not desired.
The object of the invention is to avoid the disadvantages of the known appliances, and to propose an appliance, of the type initially mentioned, which is distinguished by a simple means for fastening the mop, scrubbing cloth, or similar device, which means can be produced without great expense and is distinguished by a particularly secure grip, even after a long period of use.
This is achieved, according to the invention, in that, for the purpose of fastening the mop, scrubbing cloth, or similar device, to the sleeve, the latter is provided with at least one peg, projecting essentially radially, and the finishing tape of the mop, or of the scrubbing cloth, possesses eyelets in its upper edge region, for slipping onto the peg or pegs, and, for the purpose of fixing the mop, or similar device, a threaded bolt is provided in one of the edge regions of the finishing tape, this bolt corresponding, when the mop, or similar device, is wound around the sleeve, with an additional eyelet which is located in the finishing tape, it being possible to fasten the end possessing the additional eyelet, to the threaded bolt, by means of a nut.
The pegs can be moulded onto the sleeve, in a simple manner, and it is also possible, without appreciable expense, to press the eyelets into the finishing tape of the mop, scrubbing cloth, or similar device. Similar considerations also apply to the threaded bolt, which can likewise be anchored in the finishing tape, incurring little expense.
In this connection, it is particularly advantageous when the threaded bolt projects from the end face of a peg which projects from an endplate and possesses an annular bead at its free end, this peg passing through the finishing tape of the mop, or similar device, and being fixed in the finishing tape, preferably by means of a resiliently stretchable washer which is pushed over the annular bead in the axial direction, since the individual parts which are necessary are easy to produce and easy to assemble.
The solution according to the invention enables the mop, or similar device, to be wound around the sleeve and, at the same time, to be slipped onto the pegs on the sleeve. The mop, or similar device, is then fixed by a procedure wherein the end regions of the finishing tape are overlapped and, at the same time, the eyelet located in the end region of the finishing tape is pushed onto the threaded bolt, after which the nut is screwed onto the threaded bolt. This fixing procedure ensures that the mop, or similar device, is securely retained on the sleeve, no detachment of the mop from the sleeve occurring even if the fringes of the mop should become caught on corners, or at similar places, as can happen, detachment of the mop having been a frequent occurrence when using the press-buttons usual up to the present time.
The invention is now explained in more detail by reference to the drawing, in which Figures 1 and 2 show two partially sectioned views of a cleaning appliance with a mop which is fastened in accordance with the invention, these views being turned through 900.
At one end, the threads 1 of the mop 1 6 are wound several times around the ring 2, this ring being manufactured from wire or, preferably, from a resiliently deformable material, for instance from a foamed material containing closed pores, and are sewn together with the aid of a tape 4 which encloses the thickened portion 3 thus formed.
Part of this torus-shaped thickened portion 3 is pressed into the groove 5 in a holder 6, which is provided with a thread 7 and is screwed into a receptacle 8 on the rod-shaped handle 1 2 of the cleaning appliance 9.
Near its exposed end face, this holder 6 possesses a web 14 which extends through its interior space and enables it to be screwed on, and unscrewed, without special tools. The other ends of the threads 1 are enclosed by a tape 4', to which they are sewn. This tape is provided with pressed-in eyelets 10, 10', and with a threaded bolt 1 The eyelets 10 correspond with the pegs 15 which are moulded onto the sleeve 13 and project essentially radially therefrom, and are slipped onto these pegs.
For the purpose of fixing the mop 1 6 to the sleeve 13, the threaded bolt 1 1 if located in an end region of the sleeve, this threaded bolt projecting from the end face of a peg 18 which is provided with an endplate 17 and which possesses an annular bead 19 at its free end (Figure 1). This peg 18 passes through the tape 4' and is secured, in its position, by means of a stretchable washer 20 which is pushed over the annular bead 19 in the axial direction. In order to prevent twisting, pointed projections can be arranged on that side of the endplate 17 which faces the tape 4'.
After one turn around the sleeve 13, the eyelet 10' located in that end region of the tape 4' which faces away from the threaded bolt 1 1, corresponds with the threaded bolt 11, and is pushed onto it. After screwing the nut 21 onto the threaded bolt 1 the mop 1 6 is securely fastened to the sleeve 13, since the ends of the tape 4', which overlap one another, can no longer separate, and the sleeve 13 is hence enclosed in a comparatively secure manner, so that the eyelets 10 cannot slide off the pegs 1 5.
