Abstract

A roller shoe mechanism includes a wear/play adjusting wedge device and comprises a coupling member 2 with a slanted working surface wedgeably co-operating with a complementarily slanted working surface of the roller shoe 1, the latter surface being located oppositely to the working surface of the shoe 1 that is adjacent to the roller track. The extent of wedging may be varied by a screw 4 capable of effecting displacement between the slanted surface of the coupling member and the slanted rear surface of the roller shoe. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Roller shoe pretensioning mechanism The invention relates to rollershoe pretensioning mechanism, including a coupling member with a slanted working surface and an oppositely located working surface which is parallel with the track ofthe rollershoe.
It is known that the mounting of roller shoes is carried out by means of pretensioning, using a discrete pretensioning mechanism. Such pretensioning mechanisms consist of a plurality of pretensioning elements with slanted working surfaces. The greater the number of working surfaces, the more elastic, i.e.
less rigid, is the pretensioning and the largerthe dimensions of construction that can be applied, which atthe same time is a drawback of such a mechanism.
The aim of the invention is to provide a roller shoe pretensioning mechanism which ensures more rigid guidance in rolling with smaller constructional elements and fewer pretensioning elements than hitherto known mechanisms.
This problem can be solved if the number of working surfaces are reduced by a structional modification of the roller shoe.
According to the invention this is achieved by slanting the rear surface of the roller shoe and the working surface of the coupling member is caused to bear upon the slanted rear surface of the roller shoe in suchwaythatitexertsatensioning orwedging effect. Forthe purposes of adjustment and for widening the field of application of the invention, a preferred embodiment includes a setting or adjusting element arranged in the form of a setting screw disposed in the end orterminal element of the roller shoe.
In another advantageous embodiment, a setting or adjusting element is arranged in the form of a setting screw in the terminal or end element of the coupling member.
In a special construction, the working surfaces may be curved and/orplanarsurfaces.
Preferred embodiments of the invention are described, purely by way of example, in the accompany- ing drawings, wherein :- Figure 1 is a diagrammatic side view of one embodiment of a pretensioning mechanism according to the invention; Figure 2 is a diagrammatic cross-section of the mechanism shown in Figure 1; Figure 3 is a diagrammatic cross-section of another embodiment; and Figure 4 shows a further embodiment in a diagrammatic cross-section.
Referring to Figures 1 and 2, a pretensioning mechanism according to the invention consists of a rollershoe 1 and a wedge-shaped coupling member 2.
In the embodiment described, the coupling member 2 is gapiessly joined to e.g. a slide 6 of a machine tool.
The track or raceway of the roller shoe 1 is located in a guideway of a bed 7. The rearsurface ofthe roller shoe 1 is inclined to the horizontal at angle a. The roller shoe 1 is joined to an end element which includes a setting or adjusting element consisting of a screw 4 bearing against an end surface of member 2.
The working surface of the coupling member 2 as well as the working surface ofthe roller shoe 1 are also inclined atan angle of a. The coupling member2 is fitted to the shoe 1 in such a mannerthattheslide 6 and the bed 7 are parallel to one another.
The essence ofthe pretensioning mechanism according to the embodiment of the invention shown in Figures 1 and 2 is that bytightening or releasing the screw4the roller shoe 1 can be moved relative to the coupling member2thus generating a wedging or tensioning effect.
Figure 2 shows a guide element 5 for guiding the movement of the coupling member relative to the rollershoe 1.
Figure 3 shows an embodiment wherein the coupling member 2 is guided on the back surface (top surface, as viewed) of the roller shoe 1.
Figure 4 illustrates an embodiment wherein the coupling member is guided laterally on the side of rollershoe 1.
1. A roller shoe pretensioning mechanism comprising a coupling member having an inclined working surface and another working surface which is intended to bear against a machine part and which extends parallel with the track of the roller shoe, the roller shoe also having an inclined working surface bearing againstthat of the coupling member and shaped in such a way as to exert a wedging or tensioning effect on the inclined surface of the roller shoe.
2. A mechanism according to claim 1, wherein a setting or adjusting element, e.g. a screw, is provided to effect relative movement between the roller shoe and the coupling member so asto vary thewedging or tensioning force.
3. A mechanism according to claim 2, wherein the said element is arranged in an end element of the coupling member.
4. A mechanism according to claim 2, wherein the said element is arranged in an end element ofthe roller shoe.
5. A mechanism according to any preceding claim, wherein the working surfaces are curved and/or planarsurfaces.
6. A mechanism according to any preceding claim wherein the coupling member is guided for displacement relative to the roller shoe at the back surface of the latter.
7. A mechanism according to any of claims 1 to 5, wherein the coupling member is guided for displace ment relative to the roller shoe at the side surfaces of the latter.
8. A roller shoe pretensioning mechanism sub stantiallyas herein described with reference to and as shown in Figures 1 and 2, Figure 3 or Figure 4 of the accompanying drawings.
