Abstract

211,309. Wade, H., (Salt's Textile Co. (Soc. Anon.)). Jan. 11, 1923. Weft - feeler arrangements; shuttles; shuttles, changing g bobbins in automatically.- Weft feeler mechanism for stopping a loom or causing bobbin changing, when the weft on a bobbin B, Fig. 7, is substantially exhausted, comprises a feeler rod 54, or two feeler rods 54, 55 in the case of a double shuttle loom, slidable freely in tubular sleeves 50 having bored end-plugs 52 and normally acted upon merely by the depending arms 32 of bell-crank levers 34 pivoted on a stud &c. 26 on a lug on a collar 24 on a rod 23. The feeler-rods are normally pressed by the arms 32 towards the shuttle boxes to an extent limited by collars 50, and at the beat-up enter through apertures 56 in the shuttle boxes and slots or openings 61 in the shuttles. Normally the weft on the bobbins then engages the feeler rods and presses them forwards, whereby the levers 32, 34 are rocked, but if the weft is sufficiently exhausted in a bobbin it exposes a recess or opening or slot 63 into which a feeler rod enters, so that the corresponding hooked lever 32, 34 remains in position to be engaged by a broad-armed latch 36 adjustably secured to a cam-controlled lever, the rod 23 is thereby moved and operates a knock off lever which disengages a spring shipper lever from a detent, this lever stopping the loom either by shifting a fork for the driving belt or by operating a switch to cut off the electric current from the motor which drives the loom. The two feeler sleeves 50 are supported adjustab'y from a bracket 44 by eyebolts, and are offset, the upper sleeve being set farther away from the bracket than the lever sleeve. The bobbin may be provided with an extra length of yarn wound around a groove to provide yarn for a few extra picks after the feeler mechanism has indicated for loom stoppage, thereby preventing half picks in the cloth. In a modification, the application of the feeler device to a single shuttle loom having bobbin-changing mechanism is described, the slide rod carrying the feeler-controlled bell crank hooked lever being connected by a link to an arm on a shaft 81, Fig. 5, which is provided with a crank arm 94 connected by a telescopic link 93 to a block 89 pivoted to the transferrer, this block being raised into the path of the lay bunter 91, when the shuttle is almost exhausted, whereby the transferrer is actuated, the link 93 yielding slightly as the transferrer is actuated, so that the rock shaft 81 is not turned and the slide rod is prevented from exerting pressure on the latch whilst this is in engagement with its hooked lever.
