Windows and the like, cleaning. - A windscreen wiper, for motor vehicles, aircraft, and ships, of the kind adapted to be operated by the air pressure engendered by the forward progress of the vehicle comprises an air propeller a fast on the spindle b of a worm c engaging a wormwheel d rotating in a casing e mounted on the windscreen r by means of a bracket u. A crank pin g on the worm - wheel works in a transverse slot in a disc i formed with a rack j sliding in guides k on a bearing block l, and the rack engages a toothed sector m fixed to a shaft n journaled in the block and carrying the wiper q so that as the worm-wheel rotates the wiper is oscillated over the glass. The bearing-block l is adjustably fixed to the casing e by a screw s passing through a slot t in a flange of the block, so that the shaft b can be set horizontal when the screen is tilted. A spring may be coiled around the shaft w to balance the weight of the wiper, and the wiper arm may be spring-pressed towards the glass. The wiper q comprises. a tubular beaded rubber strip the flange of which is pinched in a U-shaped bar p pivoted to an arm o fast on the shaft n. The Provisional Specification describes a form of spur-wheel reduction gear.
