Abstract

225,463. Mole & Son, Ltd., M., and Mole, P. A. May 14, 1924. Windows and the like, cleaning. - A wiper is carried by a sleeve slidable on a spindle mounted parallel with the screen and having an endless helical groove in which takes a spring-pressed inwardly-projecting member on the sleeve so that as the spindle is continuously rotated the wiper is reciprocated over the screen. The spindle a hav- ,ing an endless groove q is enclosed in a tube d and rotates in ball bearings b carried by brackets g, e fixed to the frame of the screen c or to the screen itself, the bracket g also carrying the casing j of an electric motor the shaft of which extends below and at right angles to the spindle. A worm or spiral bevel wheel o on the motor shaft drives a worm wheel or bevel wheel p fixed on the spindle a. The sleeve r slidably mounted on the spindle has a downward extension s travelling in a longitudinal slot cut in the lower surface of the tube d, and carries an arm t to which the wiper v is pivoted at u. A spring-pressed plunger x is mounted in a bush y screwed into the sleeve rand has a knife edge adapted to fit in the groove q and curved to conform with the periphery of the spindle. The direction of rotation of the spindle is such as to tend to force the wiper against the glass, and a roller z is fitted on the sleeve rand bears against the front edge of the slot in the tube d to positively force the wiper against the glass. Other means such as a wind-vane or a turbine driven by the exhaust or suction of the vehicle engine may be used to rotate the spindle a.
