Abstract

211,079. Evershed, J. W. Aug. 28, 1923. Rollers, road.-A wheel-sprayer for road rollers is pivotally mounted upon the angularly movable wheel-scraper in a position above the level of the wheel axle. A perforated pipe 1 is carried by curved arms 3 connected together by a transverse plate 4 and mounted on pivots 9 bolted to the wheel-scraper 10. The pipe 1 is connected by a central T-piece and flexible pipe 6 to the feedwater pump 7 or other source of supply. The scraper is pivoted on a shaft 12 and is movable upward or downward by obstructions against the action of a spring-controlled plunger 13 engaging a cam or abutment 14 fixed on the shaft 12 bv set-screws 15, which allow of adjustment of the scraper and sprayer. The sprayer is normally held in the position shown by the engagement of a tall-piece 17 on one of the arms 3 with the shaft 12. When the scraper moves upward the sprayer moves with it until checked by a stop, but when the scraper moves downward rounded bosses or bearers 18 on the arms 3 engage the wheel 16 and hold the sprayer in position. The sprayer may consist of nozzles instead of a perforated pipe 1.
