Abstract
210,896. Clossmann, J. von, and Halberstadt, H. Nov. 15, 1922. Switches, partly electromagnetic; thermal switches; magnetic blow-outs.- A thermal switch, adapted to be released by hand, or by the heating effect of the current, comprises a strip of spring carrying at its free end a contact engaging a fixed contact and adapted to expand longitudinally to break circuit. As shown in Fig. 1, the expanding strip a is secured at b and sprung against a fixed contact c, from which it may be moved also by hand, or by a finger f moving the contact c, as shown in Fig. 2. The wire a may have a loop e of one or more convolutions whereby it is secured, and the magnetic effect of the current assists the opening movement; the stationary end b may engage a rock g for setting the tension. For varying the maximum current, a resistance may shunt the loop e and a fuse may also be incorporated. For use with alternating current, a choking coil or condenser may shunt the loop e. The dimensions of the loop itself may be varied to vary the time taken for opening the circuit.
