Abstract

A drum-type washing machine has a washing unit which is supported and/or suspended for free swinging movement and which consists of a container 2 for wash liquor, a drum disposed therein and rotatable about a horizontal axis and a drum drive motor 8. For the simple securing of the motor to the washing unit with little noise, a supporting spider 3 consisting of cast iron or die-cast metal is disposed on the rear wall of the container 2 and comprises a bearing for the drive shaft of the drum and one arm 6 of the supporting spider is extended beyond the wall of the container 2 and carries a foot 7 formed thereon. The motor 8 is secured to this foot 7 only by its motor bearing plate 9, 10 at the drive side. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Drum-type washing machine This invention relates to a drum-type washing machine comprising a container for detergent solution, which container receives a drum rotatable about a horizontal axis, a supporting spider which has a plurality of radial arms, is secured to the back of the container for detergent solution and includes a bearing arrangement for the driving shaft of the drum, and a drum drive motor which is secured to the washing unit formed by the drum and the container for detergent solution, said washing unit being supported and/or suspended for free swinging movement by spring elements.
In known drum-type washing machines of this kind (DEMOS 27 04 498), the drum drive motor is secured to the container for detergent solution by its two motor bearing plates via holding straps.
This kind of mounting presupposes that the container for detergent solution is of a strongwalled construction and consists of high-grade steel require s a plurality of expensive securing parts and te Ids to generate noise.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a drum-type washing machine of the kind initially referred to, wherein the mounting of the drive motor is inexpensive, has as few individual components as possible, and wherein the securing means for the motor is separated from the thin wall of the container for detergent solution.
The in',,##it;c,n accordingly pro /ides a drum-type washing machine comprising a container for detergent solution, which container receives a drum rotatable about a horizontal axis, a supporting spider which has a plurality of radial arms, is secured to the back of the container for detergent solution and includes a bearing arrangement for the driving shaft of the drum, and a drum driv motor which is secured to the washing unit formed by drum and the container, said unit being supported and/or suspended for free swinging movement by spring elements, wherein one supporting arm of the spider is extended beyond the peripheral wall of the said container and has a foot formed thereon and the drive motor is secured to the washing unit only by connection of a motor bearing plate at the drive side thereof to the foot of the supporting spider.
In the arrangement according to the invention, the motor is only secured to the spider by its motor bearing flange at the drive side, which spider is usually formed as a casting and has a relatively large mass, so that the thin-walled container for detergent solution is not included in the connection and there little tendency to transmit noise. Since the foot is formed on the spider and the motor holding means is formed on the motor bearing flange and there is no further support between the motor and the container for detergent solution, the device consists of few individual parts and is inexpensive to assemble.
The invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawing, the single Figure of which is a rear view of a container/drum unit of a washing machine in accordance with the invention Referring to the drawing, a drum-type washing machine has a container 2 for detergent solution, of which a back wall 1 is shown in the drawing and in which a drum, not illustrated, is disposed for rotation. One drum trunnion is mounted in a supporting spider 3, the arms 4, 5, 6 of which are secured to the container 2, for example to the wall of the container.
One arm 6 of the supporting spider is extended beyond the periphery of the container 2 and carries a foot 7 formed thereon to which the drum drive motor 8, formed, for example, as a collector motor, can be secured directly only by its motor bearing plate 9 at the drive side. Formed on the motor bearing plate 9 at the drive side is a holding arm 10 or the like in which are located two spaced apart bores or tapped holes. The foot 7 correspondingly comprises a through hole 11 and a slot 12 spaced therefrom so that it lies precisely or approximately on the connecting line between the driving and driven shafts.Fitted into the through hole 1 1 in the foot and the associated bore in the motor bearing plate is a pin or the like which forms a pivot while a screw passing through the slot in the foot and the second bore in the motor bearing plate serves to enable adjustment of the tightness of a drive belt extending between belt pulleys, not shown, on the motor shaft 13 and the drum trunnion. The tapped bores 14 in the supporting spider serve to receive a securing means for locating the drum assembly during transport of the washing machine.
1. A drum-type washing machine comprising a container for detergent solution, which container receives a drum rotatable about a horizontal axis, a supporting spider which has a plurality of radial arms, is secured to the back of the container for detergent solution and includes a bearing arrangement for the driving shaft of the drum, and a drum drive motor which is secured to the washing unit formed by drum and the container, said unit being supported and/or suspended for free swinging movement by spring elements, wherein one supporting arm of the spider is extended beyond the peripheral wall of the said container and has a foot formed thereon and the drive motor is secured to the washing unit only by connection of a motor bearing plate at the drive side thereof to the foot of the supporting spider.
2. A drum-type washing machine as claimed in Claim 1, wherein a holding arm is formed on the said motor bearing plate at the drive side, two spaced bores are provided in the holding arm, a bore and an appropriately spaced slot are provided
