Detaching-gear.-A support for holding a lifebuoy is provided with means for positively moving the buoy when released, to avoid the buoy sticking, as, for example., might occur through tacky paint work. As described, the support comprises a rectangular frame 2 carried by vertical supports 4 which may be the side rails of a ship, and provided with three fixed and one movable retaining devices. The fixed hookmember 2b supports the weight of the buoy and may be placed to one side of the centre to facilitate the buoy rolling off the support laterally when released, in the event of a list in the ship preventing the buoy from falling forwards. The lateral fixed members 2a which normally prevent lateral movement of the buoy, are restricted in depth, so that the 'buoy is readily freed therefrom by a slight tilting movement. The movable retaining member 5 is in the form of a pivoted hook engaging the upper surface of the buoy under the action of gravity, and released, for example, by pulling a cord 6. The cord may pass through a guide-tube 7 and may be operable from a distant point. Arrangement may be made for the simultaneous release of buoys at the port or starboard side of a vessel. Alternatively, the release may be operated electromagnetically. The member 5 has an extension 5<e> which positively tilts the buoy forward when the member 5 is raised.
