Laterad-splash guards for road-vehicle wheels are mounted in such a way as to be capable of rotation about the wheel axis in a plane parallel to the wheel to limited extents against resilient resistance which is provided between the upper end of the rotatable screen-supporting arm and an anchored part mounted upon the wheel hub or axle. As shown, the resilient resistance is provided by compression springs 12 disposed between abutments 9, 11 carried respectively by a casing 8 at the upper end of the screen-supporting arm 5 and by an inner plate which is freely mounted upon the hub and anchored to a stationary part or is secured to the non-rotating axle as by the interengagement of external and internal serrations on an axle extension 7 and on a sleeve portion 13 upon the plate. The screen may be connected to the arm by a collapsable diamond framework fitted with one or more adjustable stop members whereby the normal distance of the screen from the axle may be adjusted. The stop members 16 may, as shown in Fig. 4, be longitudinally adjustable along links of the framework, or they may be angularly adjustable relatively to the links, or one stop member only may be employed. Stops are provided at the upper and lower pivots 2, 4, and these stops may be such as to hold the screen 1 in fixed relation to the linkwork and/or the linkwork in fixed relation to the arm 5, or they may be of a yielding spring- pressed nature such that slight shocks are transmitted to the springs 12, whereas larger shocks overcome the spring stop devices at the pivots 2 or 4, or both.
