Packing, metallic. -In packing of the type in which pairs of packing rings e, f, arranged in rings b of U or L section, are pressed both inwardly and axially by garter-springs k with or without the interposition of thin strips i of metal or asbestos &c., sufficient clearance is provided between the rings b and the packing and the rod to accommodate lateral movement of the rod. The rings e, f are segmental with overlapping ends and the strips i and the rings b may also be segmental. Tilting of the packing is prevented by lateral extensions h.
