Abstract

A dispensing apparatus for dispensing drops of liquefied gas such as liquid nitrogen has a thermally- insulated reservoir (4) containing the liquefied gas. The reservoir (4) has a hollow column (18) in the bottom of which is fitted a cylindrical block (34) defining an outlet passage (36) extending through the base of the reservoir (4) and terminating in a dispensing orifice (42). A valve member (22) has a nose (25) adapted to make a fluid-tight engagement with a valve seat (24) defined by the top face of the cylindrical block (34). The valve member (22) is connected to a push rod (28) operable by lever (30) to open the valve against the bias of a compression spring (32) and thus dispense liquefied gas. The block is formed of heat conductive material such as brass whereby it maintains the passage (36) sufficiently cold to prevent substantial premature evaporation of the liquefied gas in the passage. <IMAGE>
