Abstract
208,424. Taylor, J., and Buckley, E. W. June 23, 1922. Sprinklers, automatic.-Hollow glass struts for sprinkler heads, as described in Specification 201,359, are made by sealing the end of a glass tube a by fusion, blowing it out in a mould d, filling with liquid according to the bursting point required, heating to the required temperature, sealing the outer end of the tube, allowing it to cool and form a partial vacuum, and then sealing off the capillary passage close to the bulb. The capillary tube a is drawn out into a thin stem before sealing to ensure uniformity of volume in all bulbs, and this stem may be broken before sealing to destroy the vacuum. Differently coloured liquids are used for bulbs of different bursting temperatures. Projection g, or it may be a recess, prevents the strut from turning out of position when in the sprinkler head. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 125,057 and 125,058.
