Abstract

208,340. Dempster & Sons, Ltd., R., and Frazer, J. Nov. 17,1922. Wheels with rail flange rotatable relatively to tread.-Relates to flanged wheels for use on rails or tracks of the kind in which the flange rotates independently of the tread and consists in mounting the flange on the tread portion of the wheel and retaining it in position by a ball thrust bearing interposed between it and a stationary bearing or housing. The invention is described as applied to a double flanged wheel of a mono-rail telpher in which the flanges A are freely mounted on lateral bosses on the tread porton B and are retained by thrust bearings C interposed between them and stationary bearings D for the spindle E. The inner faces a of the flanges are inclined, and the edges b of the tread are chamfered as shown. When used as a driving wheel, the tread portion is connected by a key F to the spindle which in this case passes through the bearing D as indicated at E<1>.
